Punjab government is utilising maximum resources to boost agricultural production in the province. This was stated by Provincial Minister for Agriculture Ahmad Ali Aulakh while addressing the participants of 'Kisan Convention', organised by University of Agriculture, Faisalabad on Sunday.
He said that the government was providing 30,000 Green Tractors with a subsidy of Rs6 billion through lucky draws and the same pattern was being adopted to provide agricultural implements on subsidy to the small farmers.
He expressed concern over the 16 percent general sales tax being imposed by the federal government which according to him was creating trouble to purchase inputs and other agricultural commodities.
He urged the federal government to ask Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) to procure cotton from farmers so that they could sell their produce on reasonable prices.
Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan, VC UAF said that the amount being spent on the import of edible oil could be minimised by promoting oil seed crops. He urged the scientists to introduce modern technologies and agronomic practices for the promotion of Brassica (Brassica Compestress).
