HYDERABAD: Commissioner Hyderabad Division Syed Khalid Hyder Shah has told Election Commission Hyderabad, Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad and Education Works Engineer that the date of general election can be announced at any time so they should prepare a report about the proposed missing facilities in polling stations for their needful repair and other proposals and send these to the authorities without any delay.

Commissioner Hyderabad presided over a meeting today at Shehbaz Hall regarding the review of development schemes, preparation for general elections and relief of public in terms of food items and public transport fares to the common people after the reduction in petrol prices.

While talking in the meeting, the Commissioner Hyderabad said that the Election Commission and the Assistant Commissioners should collectively visit the proposed polling stations to determine the missing facilities and submit a report. He strongly urged that the fares should be reduced after holding a meeting with the transporters and the prices of food items should be checked and strict action should be taken against those who charge more than the fixed rate list.

While talking about the performance of WASA, Commissioner Hyderabad said WASA should complete the development work in the city and solve the water shortage issue in whole city. He said that the government of Sindh is providing funds for development schemes and electricity bills despite all that the performance of WASA is unsatisfactory.

He said that Lagoons and ponds have been filled with slit and filtration of drinking water should also be carried out properly.

Speaking about the provincial building development schemes and especially the repair works in five hospitals of Hyderabad, Commissioner Hyderabad said that 9 crores have been released to each hospital in terms of M&R, but the physical work carried out at site is less that the amount shown in expenditure. He told Assistant Commissioners to visit those sites of hospitals and prepare a report.

While giving a briefing about the proposed polling station buildings, the Education Works Engineer said that ten school buildings are damaged and declared dangerous due to last year’s rains and many buildings have to be provided with washroom, water and electricity facilities and for that a fund of 53 million has been demanded.

WASA Managing Director Anjum Hussain said that they are providing four hundred million gallons of water in the city. At present, work on four treatment plant schemes is ongoing.

Fahim Abbas, representing Solid Waste Management Company Artaash, briefed the meeting that they are taking 1084 tons of waste from the city every day, which is dumped at Looni Kot.

Deputy Commissioner Hyderabad Tariq Qureshi, WASA, Works and Service, Education Works, Public Health, Local Government and Engineers of Building Department participated in the meeting.
