Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) on Wednesday resumed flights from Saidu Sharif Airport, Mingora with the arrival of first flight after a period of five years. The first flight arrived at the airport was ATRS flight with PIA Managing Director Junaid Younas and officers of PIA, Civil Aviation and Ministry of Defence onboard.
The guests were welcomed at the airport by Additional Commissioner, Malakand Ameen ul Haq, Brig: Qadeer of Pak Army and other officers and were offered with floral bouquets and garlanded. Speaking on the occasion, Managing Director PIA said that normal flights would resume from October 28 which will contain two flights a week from Islamabad and Peshawar.
Later, destinations may be increased keeping in view viability of the flights. The Managing Director showed his pleasure on the establishment of durable peace in the valley. Speaking on the occasion, Additional Commissioner Malakand said that there is a vast opportunity of trade, tourism and development in Malakand Division especially in District Swat. He expressed the hope that the PIA flights will prove a pleasant wave of fresh air in the valley and will endure for ever, resulting in the happiness and prosperity of the citizens of the area and the country at large.
