LAHORE: In a groundbreaking move, the Pakistan Electro Medical Equipment Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PEMDA) has announced its commitment to bolster the national economy by promoting the production of electro medical equipment within the country. Babar Kayani, Chairman PEMDA, revealed this strategic initiative during a media talk at a reception held in honor of key stakeholders in the electro medical sector.

Addressing the media, Kayani highlighted the global growth in healthcare technology, emphasizing the significant role played by electro medical equipment in both national and international markets. Expressing concern over the sector's lack of recognition as industry in Pakistan, he pledged to advocate for policy changes and work towards resolving challenges faced by the Electro Medical sector. Additionally, he assured support for local production efforts by the private sector.

Senior Vice Chairman PEMDA, Tahir Rashid, provided insights into the thriving electro medical sector, revealing that Pakistan has emerged as a major hub for imports in this industry. Citing international projections, he stated that the USA is expected to export equipment worth US$ 500 million to Pakistan in the coming year, while various European countries have expressed interest in importing a range of electro-medical equipment. Mr. Rashid expressed optimism that PEMDA, in collaboration with the government, will reduce reliance on imports by initiating local production, starting with small and medium-level equipment.

Vice Chairmen Shaukat Ali and M Naeem Ahmad extended gratitude to the participants of the reception and urged stakeholders to unite for the development of the Electro Medical Sector as a recognized industry. The Executive Committee members subsequently outlined a comprehensive program to address the sector's challenges with the support of relevant government bodies.

In summary, PEMDA’s visionary plan aims to transform Pakistan's electro medical sector into a self-sufficient industry, fostering economic growth and reducing dependence on imports.
