In an apparent jab at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) supporters, three-time prime minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif asserted on Friday that the real youth of the country supports his party, excluding those he referred to as the “mummy-daddy ones.”
“Unlike what some people claim, the real Pakistani youth, excluding the ‘mummy-daddy ones,’ is with PML-N, and this is why Nawaz Sharif loves you,” Nawaz said while addressing a charged gathering at Faisalabad’s Dhobi Ghaat ground.
Political rivals of PTI frequently employ terms like “privileged youth” and “wannabes” to describe its base, suggesting a disconnect with traditional values and commitment.
During his address today, Nawaz criticised the PTI for deceiving the public in the name of low-cost houses, 5 million jobs, and a billion tree plantation campaign.
“I don’t make false promises, I’m not the person who promised 5 million homes and didn’t deliver,” he said, in a jibe at PTI founder Imran Khan.
He also pledged to introduce an Orange Line Train for the residents of Faisalabad and directed former premier and PML-N president Shehbaz Sharif to resolve the prevailing issue of unemployment.
The PML-N supremo also promised to bring down inflation and reduce electricity tariffs in a country experiencing some of the highest inflation rates in years, with no relief in sight.
“With the grace of God, we aim to bring back the era when a loaf of bread was priced at Rs4, and various essentials such as vegetables and petrol were more affordable than their current rates,” commented Nawaz.
Earlier, PML-N Senior Vice-President Maryam Nawaz also criticized the PTI founder, stating, “PML-N does not indulge in blame game; we believe in serving the people.”
She added that no one could surpass PML-N in serving the people, as she prepares to contest elections for the first time, following the overturning of her conviction last year.
