The prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a mixed trend as some registered a slight increase or decrease while others remained unchanged during the week past as compared to the preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder.
Traders and wholesalers in different markets of the twin cities of Rawalpindi/Islamabad said that price of sugar, chicken, eggs and spices increased while that of fruits and vegetables witnessed a slight decline in the week past as compared to the preceding week. Flour, ghee/cocking oil, rice and pulses prices remained unchanged during the last week, traders maintained. Chicken price increased from Rs 100 to Rs 103 per kg while price of eggs increased from Rs 85 to Rs 95 per dozen. Similarly sugar price increased by Rs 1 per kg.
Meat prices remained stable during last week as mutton was available at Rs 560 per kg, whereas, beef at Rs 380 per kg. Similarly, no change was observed in ghee/cocking oil and flour prices during the last week against the preceding week. Survey noted a minor decline in vegetables and fruit prices, as tomato was available at Rs 40 per kg week past against Rs 42 of the preceding week, onion at Rs 38 against Rs 40 per kg, potato at Rs 35 per kg, carrot at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 70 per kg, shimla mirch at Rs 80 per kg, okra at Rs 50 per kg, karela at Rs 40 against Rs 50 per kg, arvi at Rs 50 per kg, chilli at Rs 70 per kg and cucumber at Rs 60 per kg.
Similarly, decline was also observed in fruit prices as apple was available at Rs 80-150 per kg depending on the quality against Rs 100-180 per kg, banana at Rs 60-120 per dozen against Rs 80-150 per dozen, pomegranate at Rs 100-120 per kg, peach at Rs 100-150 per kg, while mango at Rs 120-180 per kg during the week past as compared to the preceding week.
During last week rice prices remained stable, as super colonel was available at Rs 134 per kg against Rs 125 per kg and basmati rice was available at Rs 90-110 per kg in different markets. No significant change was observed in pulses prices during the week past as compare to the preceding week, as mash was available at Rs 160 per kg, moong at Rs 150 per kg, lobia at Rs 145 per kg, masoor at Rs 130 per kg, channa at Rs 120 per kg and white channa at Rs 130-150 per kg in different markets of the twin cities.
