ISLAMABAD: The number of cellular subscribers increased from 189.44 million by end December 2023 to 190.18 million by end January 2024, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) data revealed.

The number of 3G and 4G users in Pakistan increased from 127.68 million by end December to 128.79 million by end January.

The cellular teledensity increased from 78.93 percent by end December to 79.11 percent by end January. Total teledensity increased from 80 percent by end December to 80.2 percent by end January.

Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) penetration increased from 53.2 percent by end December to 53.57 percent by end January.

Jazz’s total count for 3G users declined from 3.492 million by end December to 3.388 million by end January. Jazz 4G users increased from 43.867 million by end December to 44.292 million by end January.

Zong 3G subscribers decreased from 2.217 million by end December to 2.162 million by end January while the number of 4G users increased from 34.202 million by end December to 34.660 million by end January.

Telenor 3G subscribers decreased from 2.380 million by end December to 2.280 million by end January while the number of 4G users of Telenor increased from 23.300 million by end December to 23.560 million by end January.

Ufone 3G users stood at 2.190 million by end January compared to 2.188 million by end December. The number of 4G users of Ufone increased from 14.484 million by end December to 14.690 million by end January.

The PTA received 19,160 complaints from telecom consumers against different telecom operators and cellular operators in January 2024, out of which, 19,031 (99.3 percent) were resolved.

Official data revealed that the complaints were received against various telecom operators, including cellular mobile operators (CMOs), Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL), Long-Distance International (LDI) operators, Wireless Local Loop (WLL) operators, and Internet Service Providers (ISPs), during January.

Cellular mobile subscribers constitute a major part of the overall telecom subscriber base. Therefore, the maximum number of complaints belongs to this segment. The total number of complaints against CMOs by January stood at 18,624, out of which, 18,515 (99.4 percent) were addressed.

According to the PTA data, 7,968 complaints were received against Jazz, out of which, 7,951 (99.8 percent) were resolved. Further, 3,132 complaints against Telenor were received, out of which, 3,091 (98.7 percent) were resolved. Likewise, 5,237 complaints were received against Zong, out of which, 5,218 (99.6 percent) were addressed. A total of 2,257 complaints were received against Ufone, out of which 2,226 (98.6 percent) were resolved.

The PTA also received 171complaints against basic telephony, out of which, 168 were addressed during January with a resolution rate of 98.2 percent. Furthermore, 351 complaints were received against ISPs, of which, 335 (95.4 percent) were addressed.
