Prisoners in Punjab to get telephone facility

The Punjab government on Monday announced that it will provide telephone facility to prisoners in 32 jails of the province. An official said that Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif had directed provision of telephone facility to prisoners, which will enable both condemned as well as under-trial prisoners to talk to their family members through landline.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also directed the concerned officials to identify a site for the construction of a hostel, for poets, writers and intellectuals, at the earliest. He further directed them to initiate work on the project without any delay while identification process for the site of the hostel should be completed on priority basis.
