ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has decided to reform the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).

The decision to this effect was taken by the prime minister while presiding over a high-level review meeting regarding the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and the NAVTTC on Wednesday.

The PM directed the NAVTTC and the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis to immediately set up a committee to formulate recommendations on the reforms of the workforce.

He also directed the immediate establishment of the Pakistan Skill Development Fund and starting work on the establishment of the Pakistan Skill Company. The NAVTTC should be made more active to ensure the provision of world-class technical training to the young workforce of Pakistan, he further instructed.

He said that an integrated system of regulation should be ensured for manpower equipped with the best and world-class professional technical skills and together with the NADRA, the NAVTTC and all the provincial institutions, a coordinated and organised database of manpower in the country and abroad should be created.

The PM also directed reforms in the licence regime of companies regarding the employment of Pakistani technical and technical workforce abroad.

Earlier, the PM was informed about the steps taken by the NAVTTC regarding technical training of the workforce in Pakistan.

The meeting was told that NAVTTC will provide technical training to 60,000 people this year, while after the reforms are completed, a total of 600,000 people will be provided with technical training in the next three years.

The meeting was told that for technical training, not only the exchange of information about employment opportunities and required skills from foreign countries is being ensured, but also the data of manpower consumption is obtained from the local industry in this regard.

The meeting was further informed that the NAVTTC has made certification of male and female students from internationally renowned institutes mandatory to ensure global standards of technical training.

The meeting was further informed that not only quota has been allocated for the youth of Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Kashmir at the federal level but also a separate programme is being launched for their special training which will start in June this year as per the instructions of the prime minister.

The meeting was also given a detailed briefing regarding the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development and recommendations on reforms were also presented.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers, Ahad Cheema, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Minister of State Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Chairman Prime Minister Youth Programme Rana Mashhood Khan, Prime Minister’s Coordinator Rana Ehsan Afzal, National Coordinator Special Investment Facilitation Council Lt Gen Sarfraz Ahmed, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Jahanzeb Khan and related senior officials.
