LAHORE: Some seven degree drop in mercury is expected from Friday night with the entry of fresh westerly system in the country, said sources in the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

They said maximum temperature is likely to come down to 35C by early next week from 42C at present. Fresh westerly system would enter from Balochistan to expand throughout the west and central Punjab before heading towards the upper parts of the country.

According to the sources, no heavy downpour is expected but still it would reduce maximum temperature. A similar phenomenon has already been witnessed throughout the month of April when mild spells of rain had kept the mercury at affordable levels throughout the month.

The sources said the westerly system would keep affecting temperatures until 14th of May to bring a sigh of relief to people of the country.

At present, they said, dryness has gripped the air due to the absence of moisture, which is around 29 percent at present and is likely to increase to 35 per cent by early next week. They said air would be warm up due to the dry air.

Also, dust storms become evident from the month of May onward due to the absence of moisture in the wind and temperature surges. Soon, there is no air in the system. A low level of moisture in the air also reduces chances of good rain, they said, adding that the wind turns into a dust storm as and when its speed crosses 50 kilometer per hour.

The sources have further predicted that temperature would stay around 35C until 20th of May that would keep the weather affordable, followed by another rise of temperature until the end of the month when another westerly system would enter the country. They said the next westerly system is likely to enter the country by the 25th of May.

They said not only constant breeze would continue from 11th of May to 20th of May but also the moisture level would remain high in the air.
