Petroleum industry: OMAP, GOREX hold seminar to introduce AI-based safety steps
LAHORE: Oil Marketing Association of Pakistan (OMAP) in collaboration with GOREX organised a seminar to introduce artificial intelligence-based safety measures in petroleum industry, here on Friday at a hotel.
The seminar was titled “Safety with Digitisation in Petroleum Industry using Artificial Intelligence (AI)” was focused on modernising safety measures in the industry to avoid accidents.
Chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) Masroor Ahmad was chief guest on occasion while Chairman OMAP Tariq Wazir Ali, Senior Vice Chairman Tariq Mahmood, Chairman GOREX Asim Jameel, Chief Coordinator Nadeem Mirza and people belonging to petroleum industry also attended the event.
Participants at the seminar expressed their views on fire prevention methods and instructions, as well as presented safety measures in oil and gas fields.
Chairman Go Petroleum Khalid Riaz announced a contribution of 20 million rupees for the OMAP. Dr Imran Taj discussed modern trends in safety, while Asim Jameel of GOREX Group also gave a presentation on the importance of AI.
Addressing the ceremony, Chairman OMAP Tariq Wazir Ali stated that ensuring the safety of the public is everyone’s responsibility, and steps must be taken to make the petroleum industry a secure one.
He added, “At the OMAP, we believe that safety isn’t just a protocol but it’s our responsibility. Our commitment transcends the operational norms to integrate safety into the very DNA of Pakistan’s petroleum industry.”
According to Tariq Wazir Ali, safety of petroleum industry depends on these objectives including Proactive Prevention, Training Excellence, Community First, Innovation in Safety and Regulatory Compliance.
Chairman OGRA Masroor Ahmad, in his address, highlighted the role of artificial intelligence in preventing accidents, stating that incidents are not even reported in our premises. He emphasised that Ogra has undertaken various tasks in the past three years, including ending penalties for oil marketing companies, which is a priority. He acknowledged that all issues have not been resolved yet, but they will move forward with all stakeholders.
