Haleem Adil Shaikh, Adviser to Chief Minister for Relief and Secretary General PML-Q (Sindh) said on Friday that if the UN and NGOs, which had initiated a propaganda before the heavy rains, had supported them (the Sindh Government), all the rain-victims would have been resettled in their homes.
Talking to the rain-affected families of Jacobabad here at his camp office, he said that the Sindh government has played its historical role in the relief activities for the betterment of millions of rain-victims. He said that he would not rest until he had resettled the last family of rain survivors.
He commented that although the UN and many other NGOs had spread propaganda before the late-monsoon rains, they did not play their role for the relief or rehabilitation of the millions of rain-affected people of Sindh. He said that the Sindh government, despite limited sources, had taken an active part in the relief activities and provided all kinds of basic facilities to almost all the needy families. He admitted that it was clear that many families were still awaiting relief, which could not be provided by the provincial government for many reasons but he added that he would provide all facilities to all the people affected by the heavy rains/floods.
During the last disasters, the international community had not helped Pakistan but in the current situation, where more than 3 million people have been displaced, our own well-to-do people have not supported the rain-victims. Haleem Adil Shaikh maintained that the youth of the country had great potential but it is the need of the hour that their creative qualities are cultivated and honed. Senior and reputable politicians could do this job. For ultimately the youth had to hold the reins of the country and pull it out from the crises but the government should initiate more schemes for the youth to learn about politics and leadership, he added.
