In spite of tall claims by the high-ups of the capital police, the incidents of car lifting and snatching are on the rise in the metropolis, but police officials mostly did not register car lifting cases or register them under other sections of law to hide their incompetence.
An official source said that cars snatching and theft cases were supposed to be registered under Section 381-A of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), but due to growing car snatching and car lifting in the federal capital, police register such cases by applying other sections to hide their incompetence to counter crimes and criminal elements. "Police mostly register theft cases under section 405 to 411 of the 'breach of trust' chapter, just to cover up their inefficiency and inability to fight the crime," he said. Source also said police stations located in the rural areas of the city did not register FIRs to show good performance as well as to hide their incompetence. Carjackers mostly steal cars from the limits of police station located in the city's urban limits, but police high ups do not bother to take action against the responsible police officials, he said.
According to data gathered by Business Recorder, various police stations of the city have registered eight's cases of car lifting, six of robbery, two of murder and a case of kidnapping during the last week.
