ISLAMABAD: The Consumer Price Index-based inflation increased to 11.1 per cent on year-on-year basis in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 12.6 per cent in the previous month and 28.3 per cent in July 2023, says Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
On month-on-month (MoM) basis, it increased to 2.1 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 0.5 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 3.5 per cent in July 2023.
CPI inflation Urban increased to 13.2 per cent on year-on-year basis in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 14.9 per cent in the previous month and 26.3 per cent in July 2023.
On MoM basis, it increased to 2.0 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 0.6 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 3.6 per cent in July 2023. CPI inflation Rural, increased to 8.1 per cent on year-on-year basis in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 9.3 per cent in the previous month and 31.3 per cent in July 2023.
On MoM basis, it increased to 2.2 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 0.3 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 3.3 per cent in July 2023.
The Sensitive Price Index (SPI) inflation on YoY increased to 15.7 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 16.6 per cent a month earlier and 29.3 per cent in July 2023.
On MoM basis, it increased by 2.0 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 1.3 per cent a month earlier and an increase of 2.8 per cent in July 2023.
The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation on YoY basis increased to 10.4 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 10.6 per cent a month earlier and an increase of 23.1 per cent in July 2023. On MoM basis, it increased by 2.3 per cent in July 2024 as compare to an increase of 0.4 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 2.5 per cent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2023.
Measured by non-food non-energy Urban increased to 11.7 per cent on YoY basis in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 12.2 per cent in the previous month and 18.4 per cent in July 2023. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.7 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 0.6 per cent in previous month and an increase of 1.2 per cent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2023.
Measured by non-food non-energy Rural increased to 16.9 per cent on YoY basis in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 17.0 per cent in the previous month and 24.6 per cent in July 2023. On MoM basis, it increased by 1.1 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 0.9 per cent in previous month and an increase of 1.2 per cent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2023.
Measured by 20 per cent weighted trimmed mean Urban remained stable at 10.3 per cent on (YoY) basis in July 2024 as compared to previous month and 21.7 per cent in July 2023. On MoM basis, it increased to 1.2 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 0.6 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 1.9 per cent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2023.
Measured by 20 per cent weighted trimmed mean Rural increased to 11.3 per cent on (YoY) basis in July 2024 as compared to 11.0 per cent in the previous month and 28.7 per cent in July 2023. On MoM basis, it increased to 1.7 per cent in July 2024 as compared to an increase of 0.5 per cent in the previous month and an increase of 2.4 per cent in corresponding month of last year i.e. July 2023.
The National Consumer Price Index for July 2024 is increased to 2.10 per cent over June 2024 and increased to 11.09 per cent over corresponding month of the last year i.e. July 2023. The Urban Consumer Price Index for July 2024 is increased to 2.03 per cent over June 2024 and increased to 13.18 per cent over corresponding month of the last year i.e. July 2023.
On MoM basis, the top few commodities which varied from the previous month and increased in food include tomatoes (75.82 per cent), fresh vegetables (29.71 per cent), milk powder (17.34 per cent), pulse gram (15.35 per cent), besan (13.31 per cent), chicken (9.89 per cent), moong (8.75 per cent), wheat flour (8.23 per cent), potatoes (7.91 per cent), gram whole (6.76 per cent), milk fresh (5.31 per cent), wheat (4.85 per cent), fresh fruits (4.41 per cent), milk products (3.25 per cent), wheat products (2.95 per cent), honey (2.40 per cent), maash (2.28 per cent), masoor (2.26 per cent), pan prepared (2.09 per cent), beverages (1.90 per cent), sugar (1.71 per cent), eggs (1.60 per cent), cigarettes (1.25 per cent), beans (1.13 per cent), gur (1.04 per cent), nimco (0.89 per cent), cooking oil (0.75 per cent), condiments and spices (0.73 per cent), dry fruits (0.72 per cent), readymade food (0.70 per cent), rice (0.57 per cent), meat (0.56 per cent), butter (0.41 per cent), mustard oil (0.33 per cent), ice cream (0.30 per cent), vegetable ghee (0.24 per cent), sweetmeat (0.20 per cent) and dessert preparation(0.08 per cent) and decreased in onions (9.68 per cent), bakery and confectionary (1.22 per cent) and fish (0.19 per cent).
Among non-food which increased include liquefied hydrocarbons (18.29 per cent), hospitals services (4.01 per cent), hosiery (3.31 per cent), motor fuel (2.65 per cent), construction input items (2.29 per cent), major tools and equipment (1.99 per cent) and motor vehicle accessories (1.71 per cent) and decreased in electricity charges (4.19 per cent) and transport services (0.79 per cent).
YoY top few commodities which varied from corresponding month of previous year i.e. July, 2023 in food which increased include; tomatoes (121.81 per cent), onions (83.25 per cent), pulse gram (39.17 per cent), milk powder (30.70 per cent), fresh vegetables (30.11 per cent), fish (29.97 per cent), beans (29.02 per cent), besan (26.40 per cent), pulse moong (24.36 per cent), maash (23.17 per cent), dry fruits (21.76 per cent), condiments and spices (20.5 per cent), meat (19.54 per cent), masoor (17.84 per cent), beverages (16.96 per cent), sweetmeat (14.04 per cent), pan prepared (13.37 per cent), butter (10.42 per cent), milk fresh (10.41 per cent), fresh fruits (10.33 per cent) and milk products (10.33 per cent) and decreased in wheat (34.54 per cent), wheat flour (32.27 per cent), cooking oil (15.47 per cent), chicken (10.91 per cent), vegetable ghee (10.65 per cent), mustard oil (9.04 per cent), rice (4.52 per cent), wheat products (3.84 per cent) and tea (2.72 per cent).
Among non-food which increased include; gas charges (318.74 per cent), dental services (30.22 per cent), transport services (29.08 per cent), liquefied hydrocarbons (27.38 per cent), cotton cloth (24.61 per cent), drugs and medicines (23.51 per cent), woolen readymade garments (23.44 per cent), marriage hall charges (21.78 per cent), hospitals services (19.71 per cent), footware (19.63 per cent), garbage collection (19.26 per cent) and furniture and furnishing (18.33 per cent).
The Rural Consumer Price Index for July 2024 is increased to 2.20 per cent over June 2024 and increased to 8.14 per cent over corresponding month of the last year i.e. July 2023.
On MoM basis, the top few commodities which varied from the previous month in food which increased include; tomatoes (103.81 per cent), milk powder (21.19 per cent), pulse gram (13.69 per cent), fresh vegetables (11.35 per cent), besan (11.11 per cent), moong (8.55 per cent), wheat flour (8.51 per cent), wheat (6.72 per cent), potatoes (6.32 per cent), gram whole (6.22 per cent), fresh fruits (5.30 per cent), chicken (4.16 per cent), maash (2.54 per cent), masoor (2.45 per cent), milk fresh (2.45 per cent), cooking oil (1.85 per cent), rice (1.81 per cent), cigarettes (1.80 per cent), sugar (1.72 per cent), pan prepared (1.62 per cent), condiments and spices (1.46 per cent) and mustard oil (1.38 per cent) and decreased in onions (10.82 per cent) and eggs (1.04 per cent).
