President of Pakistan Kabaddi Federation, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Thursday welcomed the Kabaddi teams from India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Iran and host Pakistan who are taking part in the tournament on behalf of the Federation. Talking to media after the inaugural ceremony of the Second Asia Cup Kabaddi Tournament 2012, which started here at the Punjab Stadium on Thursday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) President, Senator, Chaudhry Shujat Hussain said that they would contest the general elections jointly with Pakistan People's Party.
"Political weather is changing. As the elections are nearing political alliances will be formed and broken, people would keep switching over, everyone will know his position in the general elections. Our party is there and will Insha-Allah remain intact," he said.
Six teams including India, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Iran and host Pakistan are taking part in the tournament. On the opening day, an exhibition kabaddi match between Pakistan and Asian-XI was staged. This match was won by Pakistan.
Shujaat said that general elections Insha-Allah will be held on time and as such none should hope that a new set up will come ahead of the elections. Addressing the ceremony, Shujaat said competitions like kabaddi should continue to be held. This is quite appreciable as such contests help improve relations between the people and the countries, he said. He said for peace and prosperity in the region, heads of all countries should sit together and chalk out a strategy.
He said kabaddi is the game of the masses and mutual contests help improve relations between the countries and the peoples. He said the way kabaddi players are taking rounds of the stadium on buggies with dhools being played, heads of these countries should also come here so that they can also these matches. On this occasion, Shujaat presented a cheque of Rs one million to the Pakistan Kabaddi Federation and distributed shields among the retired players.
