Shahbaz Sharif's government has lost its constitutional position after being found guilty in the Asghar Khan case and it should immediately step down, said Manzoor Wattoo, the newly-appointed President of PPP Punjab and federal minister, on Saturday. Addressing media persons here, he said that the Sharif brothers had been held liable for receiving money from the ISI for rigging the 1990 elections, therefore, they were not fit to run government under Articled 62 and 63 of the Constitution.
He urged the Sharif brothers to comply with the court orders. Lashing out against the PMLN leadership for misappropriating local government funds in by-polls, wooing political opponents and pointing out that former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had abide by the court orders and stepped down immediately, he said that Shahbaz Sharif should also follow suit and leave the office of the Chief Minister.
Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah advised Wattoo to wait for the detailed judgement in the Asghar Khan case before prognosticating "like a constitutional expert". Meanwhile, deputy opposition leader in the Punjab Assembly Shaukat Basra levelled similar allegations against the Sharif brothers and said that the PML-N was a party of "businessmen who believe in buying off loyalties of turncoats".
