This refers to the two reports, carried by the electronic as well as print media of November 07, one pertaining to the address of Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Parvez Ashfaq Kayani, given to a group of army officers and the second, relative to the speech of the Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Chaudhry, delivered at the National Management College during a moot of the sundry officers, attending a National Management course there.
The contents and thrust of General Kayani's speech was clearly directed towards the Supreme Judiciary and the media, in the context of the multitude of problems the nation is presently facing and its fall out on the morale of the armed forces. General Kayani, interestingly made no mention of the current corrupt and incompetent dispensation, hugely responsible for all that ails the nation, at the verge of becoming a failed state.
General Kayani in his speech, expressed deep concerns and talked about the issues in the context of 'national security, national interest, rule of law and role of the state institutions'. The general also warned of the dire consequences of trying to weaken the institutions by the vested interest, in general and the conspiracy to draw a wedge between the armed forces and the nation, in particular. General Kayani very rightly emphasised the importance of the 'trust between the leaders and the led' alluding to the professional relationship between the military officers, the leaders and the soldiers, the led. No sane and responsible Pakistani would disagree with the general on all these counts.
The traumatised Pakistani nation would have appreciated if General Kayani had also addressed the issues relative to the dwindling economy in dire straits, rampant corruption, galloping inflation, the NRO fallout, fast deteriorating law and order situation, widespread anarchy, terrorism, militancy, extremism and wanton targeted killings that now rule supreme in the country.
