The unabated spree of targeted killings continued on Monday as eight more people were killed while several others injured in the city, pushing the death toll to 39 during last three days. According to police and rescue sources, unidentified armed men opened fire on a doctor, Nisar, son of Ghulam Ahmad, when he was busy in examining patients at his clinic in Lyari in the limits of Kalakot police station.
Police said the motive behind his murder was yet to be ascertained while the body was shifted to Lyari General Hospital for autopsy. Unknown armed men sprayed a volley of bullets on a rickshaw parked in Memon Goth, Malir in the jurisdiction of Memon Goth police station. Resultantly, a man, Muhammad Din, 52, and his son-in-law, Abdul Shakoor, 28, sustained fatal wounds and died on the spot. Police said both the victims might have been murdered over personal ground. No case was registered till filing of this report. A bullet-riddled body of youth stuffed in a sack was recovered from Orangi Town sector 11 1/2 in the limits of Iqbal Market police station.
Police said the assassin killed the victim after applying severe torture on his body and added that the victim, who was identified as Gulzar Hussain, son of Gulab Hussain, was the resident of Orangi Town. In another incident, a 55-year-old man, Bacha Khan, son of Mir Hussan Khan, sustained fatal wounds when unidentified armed men offered armed resistance during search operation at Sultanabad area.
Police said the incident took place near Degree College Sultanabad where law enforcers established makeshift pickets to launch search operation. Meanwhile, unidentified armed men opened indiscriminate fire on a pick-up van when it entered the area. Police said the culprits targeted the van over the suspicious of police mobile, leaving Bacha Khan dead. A case was registered against unknown culprits.
A man, Zain-ul-Abdien alias Bangali Baba, 65, was killed while his daughter got bullet injuries when unknown armed men barged into his Astana and opened fire on them. Police said the deceased, who said to be spiritual healer (Pir), might have been assaulted over personal enmity. Similarly, two more persons; Elahi Bux, 40, son of Sattar and Shamshad, 35, son of Abdul Hasan, were killed in separate firing incidents in Khwaja Ajmeer Nagri and Orangi Town areas, respectively.
