At least 10 people including two cops were killed in different incidents of violence in the city on Thursday, police and rescue sources said. Three men were gunned down when unknown armed men opened fire at a vehicle in PIB Colony in the limits of PIB police station. The deceased were identified as Pir Ziauddin, 35, Jawaid Khan, 45, and Ishfaq, 25 who were the residents of Sohrab Goth.
Armed assailants riding motorcycle opened indiscriminate firing on a vehicle, killing two persons on the spot and critically injuring the third who died at hospital during treatment. Police have impounded the vehicle and recovered a 9mm pistol from the crime scene. The deceased were the contractors of concrete, sand and cement and hailed from Swat.
Bodies of two police men were recovered from Super Highway in the jurisdiction of Sachal police station. According to Station House Officer (SHO) Ali Akbar the deceased have been identified as Constable Kamran and Head Constable (HC) Asghar.
Akbar said Kamran was deployed at Sabzi Mandi police post of Sohrab Goth police limits while Asghar was deployed at Central Police Headquarter. He said Asghar used to come at Sabzi Mandi police post to meet Kamran. Further investigation is under way, he added. The bodies were shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities. In another incident a body of a middle-aged woman was found in Bhains Colony in the limits of Quaidabad police station.
The identity of the deceased woman could not be ascertained till filing of this report. Police said that armed men dumped the body at an isolated place after killing her with multiple gunshots. The body was shifted to hospital of medico-legal formalities.
A young boy was killed when the gun of a security guard went off accidentally in Shah Faisal area in the limits of Shah Faisal Colony police station. The deceased was identified as Jehangir, 16, who worked at a betel nut factory. A security guard namely Rashid, deployed at betel nut factory, was cleaning his gun when a bullet discharged accidentally and hit a boy, killing him on the spot. The boy used to work at the same factory. The body was shifted to JPMC for autopsy.
A man was gunned down in North Nazimabad Block-4 in the limits of Haideri police station. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained. Police said unidentified armed assailants gunned the man down, dumped his body at a garbage heap and fled. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.
A young man was gunned down in Gazi Goth neat Ijtimagah in the jurisdiction of Manghopir police station. The identity of the deceased could not be ascertained. Police said armed men riding motorcycle sprayed the man with bullets. The deceased appeared to be in his mid-20s. The body was shifted to ASH for medico-legal formalities.
A woman was shot dead while five others injured by armed assailants in Baldia-14 in the limits of Saeedabad police station. Police said armed men barged into a house in Baldia and opened fire and fled as a result Zulikha,35, Samairi,20, Rehana,24, Talat,25 and Waseem,30 sustained injuries. The injured were rushed to CHK where Zulikha died during treatment.
