National Assembly's Standing Committee on Rules of Procedure and Privileges on Wednesday sought record of Hajj corruption case against Abdul Qadir Gilani from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The in-camera meeting of the committee was held here at the parliament house and presided over by MNA Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry.
The meeting reviewed the question of privilege raised by Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani and recorded the statements of the FIA officials and directed the concerned authorities to submit details of Hajj corruption case. Statement of Director General FIA, Muhammad Anwar Virk and Investigation officer of the case, Hussain Asghar were recorded during the meeting. Secretary Interior, Khawaja Muhammad Sadiq Akbar also appeared before the committee. Chairman of the committee, Abdul Ghafoor Chaudhry, while talking to media persons after the meeting, said that the committee was looking into the matter, however finding of the committee would be given after reviewing complete record of the Hajj corruption case.
Referring to the allegations levelled against Abdul Qadir Gilani by the Pirzada Syed Imran Ahmed Shah, a PML-N parliamentarian that Qadir Gilani had received a luxury bullet-proof Land Cruiser from the former director general Rao Shakeel Ahmed, the principal accused in the scam, chairman of the committee said that the Supreme Court found that the MNA had failed to provide evidence against Abdul Qadir Gilani. Subsequently, it directed the FIA to proceed against Mr Shah. However, the MNA has backtracked on allegations he had levelled against Abdul Qadir Gilani.
MNAs Ghulam Ali Nizamani, Syed Naveed Qmar , Nadeem Afzal Chan , Nawab Muhammad Yousuf Talpur, Sajjad-ul-Hassan, Mahmood Hayat Khan, Chaudhry Mahmood Bashir Virk, Rana Nazir Ahmed Khan, Muhammad Raza Hayat Harraj, Moulvi Agha Muhammad, Muhammad Usman Advocate, Abdul Qadir Gilani , Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah and Begum Nasim Akhter Chaudhry besides other government officials were also present in the meeting.
