Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan termed the recent Developing-8 summit in Islamabad as failed effort due to mismanagement and incompetence of the incumbent government. In an informal chat with a group of journalists here at the Parliament House on Friday, Nisar also questioned Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari's participation in the summit.
Nisar did not name Bilawal, but said that participation of a 19-year old boy in an important summit was a 'joke' who has not even taken oath under the Constitution of any official responsibility. "This is even a blatant defiance of national and international rules as well as norms," he remarked.
He said that D-8 summit was a positive step, but unfortunately the mismanagement and incompetence of the present government caused its failure. "It was an opportunity for Pakistan to promote and highlight its positive image across the world through this international event, but ineptness and mismanagement of the rulers made the country laughing stock before the international community," Nisar added. He opined that convening of the summit in sensitive days of Muharram was reflection of the rulers' incompetence. "The rulers overlooked the sensitivities of holy month of Muharram and instead of sending a positive message, it made the country a laughing stock," he added.
The Leader of the Opposition also lambasted the government for not inviting Iranian President Dr Mehmood Ahmadinejad to address the joint session of the parliament. "Inviting Egyptian President Mohamad Mursi to address the parliament's joint sitting was good step... but the rulers should come up with explanation as to why such an invitation was not extended to the Iranian leader," he asked.
The government cancelled a session of the joint sitting of the parliament, which was scheduled for Friday, due to cancellation of Egyptian President Morsi visit to the country. Nisar also pointed out that Aiwan-e-Sadr and President Asif Ali Zardari dominated the summit, which was a sheer breach of rules and regulations, adding that as per the constitution, the Prime Minister is the chief executive of the country and he is the only authority to host such global event. "By keeping the Prime Minister away from the summit, President Zardari has actually given a message to him that how powerful he is," the leader of the opposition remarked.
