The University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore formally launched "UVAS 24/7 Extension Service" on Wednesday to provide emergency services to livestock, poultry, fisheries and dairy farmers on their doorstep. Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha said that the 24/7 extension service is an innovative and novel task to improve the animal health and in return get maximum yield from them.
He said that the university is focused on weak areas of livestock extension. Stressing on importance of the extension services, Professor Pasha said that there is no expansion in livestock sector without extension. The university is moving towards fast electronically extension services for the welfare of Pakistan's livestock treasure, he added. He said that the university is offering hands on training courses to equip the technical workforce to cater to the field requirements.
The Vice-Chancellor said that the 'UVAS 24/7 extension service' is aimed to provide emergency and routine veterinary patient care for all species of large and small animals, to strive to better understand animal disease processes and to be a leader in the area of animal health and productivity for the betterment of farming community. The conference was attended by veterinary pharmaceutical entrepreneurs, livestock department officials, nutritionist and farmers. Lahore University Management Sciences Pro-Chancellor Syed Baber Ali lauded the UVAS for launching extension service.
