A fresh wave of violence has gripped the city after a four-day interval: seven persons were killed and a half dozen injured in separate incidents at various parts of the metropolis on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, a 70-year-old man named Hassan Mohsin, alias Mama, son of Mohsin Naqvi, was shot dead by two unidentified armed motorcycle riders at Nazimabad No2 in the limits of Gulbahar police station. DSP Iftikhar Lodhi said the deceased was shot several times in Mohsin Park near Imambargah Jamia Imamia.
Following the said killing, tension prevailed in Rizvia, Hassan Noman Colony and elsewhere. Protesters torched a passenger bus and resorted to intense firing, leading to the suspension of all commercial and social activities. The DSP said the killing might have been motivated by sectarianism.
A butcher, Junaid, 26, was killed while two others injured near Mashallah Hotel in the limits of Orangi Town police station. The injured persons were identified as Nasir and Mehboob. The body and the injured persons were shifted to Abbasi Shaheeed Hospital (ASH) for autopsy and treatment.
Police said the shooting might have been motivated by a personal feud. A 40-year-old man named Malik Riaz was gunned down near the Truck Stand in the jurisdiction of Kalri police station. The deceased, owner of a tyre shop, used to live in Saeedabad in Baldia Town. Police said he was murdered over a personal feud.
In another firing incident, a 28-year-old man, Younus, was critically injured in the Metroville area in the limits of SITE-A police station. The victim died at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital because of the severity of his wounds. Police said the motive behind his murder was yet to be ascertained.
A 40-year-old man, Bilal Memon, was found slaughtered in Bihar Colony in the limits of Jamsheed Quarters police station. Police said the body was found on the information of his wife, who is a teacher and was on her job at the time of the incident. Police said the deceased had two marriages and he might have been murdered over a domestic issue. A man named Chaudry Nusrat Mehmood, who was injured in a firing incident on October 19, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday.
A 32-year-old watchman, Sadiq son of Abdul Majeed, was gunned down at a rickshaw stand in Khamosh Colony in the limits of Gulbahar police station. He was on his duty when he was killed. SHO Rizwan Patel said the deceased, who was accused in a murder case in Kala Dhaka, had escaped to Karachi a few months ago. He said that he might have been murdered over a personal matter.
