The Supreme Court (SC) decided on Monday to frame charges against former Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) Senator Nehal Hashmi on March 26 in contempt of court case.

Hashmi appeared before the apex court on Monday morning, where Chief Justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar headed the three-member bench. During the proceedings, Hashmi submitted his reply after which the hearing was adjourned.

Speaking to the media after the court proceedings, Hashmi said he had not taken any judges' name in his speech. The former Senator further said he hopes that he will get justice from the court.

On March 7, Hashmi was issued a contempt of court notice for the second time by the SC after he had again targeted the judiciary and abused it. Hashmi later apologized saying that he could never think of disrespecting the judiciary and court. The SC, however, issued notice to the representatives of bar association on whether Hashmi can continue practice or not and adjourned the hearing to March 12 (today).

Nehal Hashmi gets another contempt of court notice by SC

Earlier in January, the SC had sentenced Hashmi to one month jail imprisonment for his contemptuous speech against the judiciary. On his release from Adiala Jail on February 28, Hashmi had again made a fiery speech, after which the SC summoned him to court.

For his fiery speech last year in May, targeting the judiciary and the joint investigation team members, who were probing offshore accounts of Sharif family, the SC took a suo motu notice of Hashmi’s speech. The SC barred Hashmi from holding public office for a period of five years and sent him to jail for a month. The three judge bench, headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa, also slapped a fine of Rs.50,000 on him. After SC’s verdict Hashmi was taken into custody.
