There was no letup in the ongoing spree of targeted killings as eight more persons including three political activists fell victim in separate incidents of violence in various parts of the metropolis here on Tuesday. According to police and rescue sources, a man was killed in a drive-by shooting in the limits of Jamshed Quarters police station.
Police said the victim identified as Muhammad Siddique son of Allah Rakha was targeted when he was travelling in his van (KB-7871) near the Nursery area. Resultantly, he sustained fatal bullet wounds and succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital. Police said that the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) confirmed his affiliation with Unit 56 and added that the victim, who was the resident of the same area was a government servant.
In another incident, MQM man namely Rehan son of Khalil Ahmad was targeted when he was going somewhere in Nazimabad no 2. He was hit by multiple gunshots and died on the spot. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for autopsy. Police said that although the motive behind his murder was yet to be ascertained.. Following the killing of the two MQM men, tension prevailed in the respective areas where all shops and markets were closed due to the uncertain situation.
A 40-year-old unknown man was shot dead near Banaras Bridge. Police said that the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while the body was transported to the ASH and later moved to Edhi morgue for identification. A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death in the Afghan Camp in the limits of Gulshan-e-Maymar police station. Police said that the victim, who was identified as Gul Muhammad son of Muhammad Zaheer, had no political or religious affiliation and added that the deceased might have been killed on personal grounds. No case was registered till filing of this report.
A fetus was recovered from the bushes located in Zia Colony in the limits of Orangi Town police station. Police said the recovery was made on the information of the inhabitants and added that the fetus was sent to the hospital for forensic examination. They further said that Zia Colony was an undeveloped residential area and the involvement of a small maternity centre in dumping the fetus could not be ruled out. Investigation has been initiated to nab the responsible persons.
A 30-year-old man identified as Arshad son of Ashraf was gunned down near a private bank branch located in Azam Basti in the jurisdiction of Mehmoodabad police station. The body was shifted to JPMC and later handed over to the heirs. Police said that the victim had no affiliation with any religious or political party and might have been killed over a personal matter.
Unidentified armed men barged into a house located in Sindhi Goth at Bin Qasim Town and claimed the life of a 35-year-old woman namely Zehra Bibi wife of Dost Muhammad. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities and later handed over to her heirs. Police said that the family members in their statements claimed that she had no dispute with anyone and might have been killed for resisting a robbery. They said that the police had initiated investigation to ascertain the facts. An activist of Sunni Tehrik namely Zahid Qadri was gunned down in the limits of PIB Colony Police Station. Police said the deceased was said to be the Sector Member of ST. No case was registered till filing of this report.
