Small and Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda) is going to submit proposals for development of Islampur (Saidu Sharif) as wool-craft city to up-grade the quality of the products of silk units in the region. The provincial chief Smeda, Javed Iqbal Khattak, disclosed while talking to media persons in office, here Wednesday.
He said that 45 silk units in the area have already been rehabilitated under the Multi-Donor Trust Funded (MDTF) project of Economic Revitalisation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Fata and efforts for the revival of remaining units was in progress. Javed Iqbal Khattak said that for bringing the improvement in the quality of the products a common facilitation centre (CFC) is also being established. The project, he said will cost a hefty amount of Rs 30 million. He said that besides, the establishment of CFC a display centre is also being established to support the silk units in promotion of marketing network will also help in bringing improvement in the products.
