Leader of Opposition in Senate Ishaq Dar has urged United States to pursue a policy of mutual respect and trust with Pakistan for strengthening bilateral co-operation as well as peace and stability in the region. He was talking to Senior Advisor to US Special Representative on Afghanistan and Pakistan, Ambassador Robin Raphael, who called on him, here Wednesday.
A PML-N spokesman said that issues of bilateral interests, economic co-operation between the United States and Pakistan were discussed during the meeting. Senator Dar, a former Federal Minister for Finance, also called upon the US to have a wide ranging and meaningful co-operation between the two countries, adding that Obama administration should play an active role in stabilising Pakistan's economy and creating additional opportunities for enhancing the bilateral trade.
"The United States should pursue a policy of mutual respect and trust with Pakistan, as only such a policy would strengthen co-operation between them and serve the cause of peace and stability in the region", he advised the top US diplomat. In this context Senator Dar emphasised that the importance of American participation in boost up the energy and power sectors is vital.
Dar also shared his views on economic reforms necessary to alleviate poverty in Pakistan while bringing economic stability to the country. He emphasised that the US economic assistance should be directed towards the welfare and well-being of the common man. He pointed out that the PML-N believes in self-reliance which should be the ultimate goal. The PML-N leader maintained that his party's manifesto for the upcoming general elections would guide the party in achieving economic stability, rooting out corruption, strengthening the institutions and solving the problems of the people of Pakistan.
