At least three persons including prayer-leader fell victims in separate incidents of violence at various parts of the metropolis, here on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, unidentified armed riders gunned down a man in front of Time Motors located at Tariq Road, in the limits of Ferozabad police station.
Police identified the deceased as Tanveer, 28, son of Hassan Bungash was. He said the deceased, who belonged to Shia sect, and a father of one, was an automobile salesman. The body was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) and later moved to Khurasaan Imam Bargah, Numaish for funeral prayers. Charged mourners blocked M A Jinnah Road and staged a protest demonstration over the killing. They also urged the authorities concerned to immediately arrest elements involved in the murder.
Later, the funeral procession moved towards Wadi-e-Hussain. No case was registered till the filing of this report. At least three armed men barged into Masjid-e-Islamia in Sector 5-E of New Karachi and killed a prayer-leader in the limits of Bilal Colony police station.
The deceased was later identified by police as Qari Ahsaanullah, 40. The body was shifted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH). Police said the deceased used to live in New Karachi No3. TPO New Karachi Salman Hussan said after this firing incident, the inhabitants of the area gathered at crime scene and nabbed one of the attackers. He said the detained person identified as Bilal alias Kashif son of Abdul Shakoor was the resident of Qauidabad and belonged to same school of thought.
DIG West Javeed Odho in a press conference at his office said the detained person during initial course of investigation revealed that he got trained in Manshera and he was directed by Shah Sahib from Waziristan to kill the said prayer-leader. Moreover, DIG said the accused person in his statement stated that Shah Sahib offered him Rs 15000 for this murder and he committed the said crime with the assistance of his two accomplices namely Aamir and Saqib.
A case was registered against these persons on the complaint of deceased brother Irfan. Meanwhile, the sources said the accused person was nabbed by the worker of one of the political parties and added that the prayer-leader was killed over the Masjid's dispute. They also said the deceased was serving in the said Masjid for last 15 years and he was the father of three.
Another man namely Feroz Khan, 55, was shot dead at Boat Basin area. Police said the victim had no political or religious affiliation and he was gunned down when he offered resistance during a robbery bid. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
