Gujranwala Electric Power Company (GEPCO) has announced 2 to 6 hours daily loadshedding in the region- known as gold triangle of the country due to its export potential- comprising Gujranawala,, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad districts.
About 60 percent of Pakistan's SME's are located in this region in the central Punjab. Chief Engineer Operations GEPCO told Business Recorder on Sunday that due to low level of water in the dams and short supply of gas to power generation units, the electricity production had significantly dropped in the country and DISCOs were not in a position to meet total electricity needs of various sectors of economy and domestic consumers.
"Under these circumstances, Gepco is forced to carry out 2 to 6 hours daily load shedding for different categories of consumers in the Gujranwala division," he added.
