At least 11 persons including a cop and a political worker were killed in different acts of violence in the metropolis here on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, unidentified armed men sprayed a volley of bullets on a car (AEE-199) in Sector F-2 of Labour Square area in the limits of Qauidabad police station.
Resultantly, a 45-year-old Syed Bhawal Shah, son of Syed Gamey Shah, and his nephew Baqar Shah, 25, son of Mudain Shah, sustained fatal bullet wounds and succumbed to their injuries on the way to hospital. Police said the deceased Bhawal Shah was deputed in Customs Anti Smuggling department as Sub-Inspector while his nephew was working in Steel Mills. They said both the victims, who hailed from Punjab and were residing in Sherpao Colony, Landhi, might have been killed over personal enmity.
One, Muhammad Zubair alias Doctor, 32, son of Kabir Ahmad Bangali, was gunned down when he was standing in front of a medical store in Zia colony in the limits of Korangi police station. Police said the body of the victim, who was the member of Action Committee, was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for legal formalities. Following his killing, tension gripped the area.
A police sub-inspector, Mukhtiar son of Jamaluddin, was shot dead at sector 9-D of Baldia Town when he was on the way to work on his bike. Police said he was hit by six bullets and died on spot. They said the victim was deployed in Saeedabad police station where the incident took place. He hailed from Gujrat and a father of four.
An activist of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Abid alias Munna, 35, son of Zafar Iqbal, who sustained bullet wounds in an armed ambush in Kharadar police precincts on early Wednesday, succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Following his death, all commercial and social activities in the area were suspended.
A four-day old body was found near Ghulaman-e-Abbas school located at Maripur road in the limits of Shershah police station. The victim was identified as Imtiaz Ali, 40, son of Ikhlaq Ali. Police said the culprits applied severe torture on him before claiming his.
Similarly, a five-day-old body was recovered from the bushes located in sector 11 1/2 of Orangi Town in the jurisdiction of Pakistan Bazar police station. Police said the identity of the victim was yet to be ascertained while he was shifted to Edhi morgue after legal formalities.
A trader of generators was gunned down at his shop located in generator market in the limits of Methadar police station. Police said the victim, Asif, 27, son of Abdul Hafeez, was hit by three bullets and died on spot. They said the deceased, who was the resident of Azizabad area, was the brother of an MQM worker and that might have been the reason of his targeted killing. Following his killings, traders of generator market staged protest demonstration and block the main arteries for hours. Later, they dispersed after negotiations with law enforcers.
One more person was killed in a drive-by shooting in Gulbahar area. Additional Deputy Director, KDA Ata Abbas Zaidi and his driver Rauf Siddiqui and six more persons sustained bullet injuries in separate incidents at F.B area, Pirabad and Maripur. Meanwhile, two more bodies were found in the limits of Sohrab Goth police limits. The identities of the victims were yet to be ascertained while police recovered these bodies from two different areas of Sohrab Goth, police said.
