Reposing full confidence in Fakhruddin G Ebrahim Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of Pakistan, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Thursday asked the CEC to ensure consultation process with the PTI regarding the formation of the caretaker set-up. He made this request in a written plea submitted with the CEC here in his meeting with former Justice Fakharuddin G Ebrahim.
He expressed optimism that the CEC would leave no stone unturned to ensure free, fair and transparent general elections. He said he had also handed over evidence to the CEC regarding pre-poll rigging by the PPP and the PML-N as state resources were being misused to lure in the loyalties of political leaders. However, he said there would be no difference for the PTI if those politicians leave the party whose loyalties could be purchased.
Talking to media representatives, PTI Chief said he discussed with the CEC various administrative issues pertaining to much-awaited general elections as well as shared proofs of pre-polls rigging being committed by the two major political parties. Imran Khan said he also gave some suggestions to Ebrahim regarding holding free, fair and transparent elections.
PTI Chairman said the ECP had accepted his party's request to deploy the army at sensitive polling stations, which was good move and would help lessen the possibility of rigging. Imran Khan said that most of the parliamentarians didn't have NTN number, whose assets were increasing but they were paying no tax. He alleged that excessive money was being spent by PPP and PML-N, adding the two parties had kicked off developmental projects as elections draw nearer.
Lashing out at Punjab government, Imran Khan said Punjab government was known for political victimisation and had no parallel in this regard, adding that life standard of the rulers was like 'emperors'. Imran Khan went on saying that fake cases were being registered against PTI's leaders in Punjab to victimise them. Khan suggested that voters' list be posted on election commission's website after final corrections.
He said parliamentarian should declare their actual assets, adding that only a rich could contest election in Pakistan, as millions of rupees were being spent on taking voters to polling stations. Imran Khan said PTI's successful public gatherings in South Punjab were answer for those who were of the views that tsunami was fast vanishing. The PTI Chief said during his meeting with CEC, he sought scale as election symbol. Imran Khan said the Supreme Court should take steps for giving right to cast vote to 4.5 million registered overseas Pakistanis.-PR
