Young Doctors Association, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has taken exception to the lack of interest of the government regarding solution to their lawful demands and had given four-day deadline to the provincial government in this regard. The deadline was given in a convention of the doctors held here in Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) Peshawar on Thursday.
The young doctors had warned the provincial government that in case of the failure in the acceptance of their demands by December 24, they would boycott OPD in all public sector hospitals of the province while VEIP Block and Bolton Block would be closed from Friday (today).
Addressing the convention, President Dr Alamgir Khan, Chairman Dr Malik Faisal Iftikhar and other office bearers of the YDA alleged that the provincial government was not sincere in the resolution of the problems of doctors and despite their symbolic strike of 16 days, the representatives of the government could not come on negotiation. They made it clear that the complete strike of doctors from December 24 would prove costly for the government.
The convention also passed a unanimous resolution in which they strongly warned the government that they would set idle till guaranteeing service structure, protection to doctors, abolition of the black laws of Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and provision of free medicines in public sector hospitals. The convention also decided that young doctors will be informed of the next strategy on December 23. The convention was held under the auspices of YDA while YDA Chairman Punjab, Dr Saud Afzal, former chairman Dr Haroon; YDA (Federal) President Dr Farooq also attended and expressed solidarity with the young doctors of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
