The Administrator of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mohammad Hussain Syed announced on Sunday that work at Jinnah Terminal Flyover will be completed by next month. Chairing a meeting held to review ongoing development work and the network of flyovers being completed in the metropolis, he said four different flyovers being constructed at Sharah-e-Pakistan would be made open to traffic by early March 2013.
The KMC administrator said flyover at Shahrah e Faisal would ease traffic pressure on the thoroughfare connecting international airport and national highway with other parts of the city. Mohammad Hussain Syed appreciated that work on this three-lane flyover is in full swing and that nine of its spins have been completed while books girder are being completed along with work on 120-meter desk slap. "Idea is to make Shahrah e Faisal 'signal free' for which two more flyovers would be built at Kala Board and Malir 15," he said. The KMC administrator also mentioned that Rs 24 million have been allocated for the purpose and completion of these projects would facilitate the residents of Port Qasim, Steel and different areas of Malir district.
The meeting among others was also attended by Director General - Services, Altaf G Memon, Senior Director, Transport and Communication, Mohammad Athar and others.
Altaf G Memon giving details of the Jinnah Terminal Flyover said, its total length is 570 meters and that it has nine spins. KMC administrator acknowledging inconvenience being caused to the commuters due to the ongoing development work said efforts are underway to expedite the pace of work and complete the scheme without any compromise to the quality of work. Completion of these flyovers would significantly reduce the fuel cost that citizens have to bear while covering long distances, said KMC administrator and also referred to massive decline in the travelling time.
