Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that holding of immediate general elections is the need of the hour and postponement of general elections is not acceptable at all. His party wanted stability of democratic system; the change should come through ballot and not bullet and the need for fresh mandate was more than ever now to steer the country out of crises, he added.
He was talking to leader of Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Pakistan, Senator Professor Sajid Mir - a political ally of PML-N - here on Wednesday. Matters of mutual interest and overall political situation of the country were discussed on the occasion. The two leaders agreed that general elections should be held on time and in a transparent manner.
Secretary General Markazi Jamiat Ahle Hadees Pakistan Hafiz Abdul Karim was also present on the occasion. The Chief Minister said that inefficient rulers had not taken any practical step for elimination of terrorism, corruption, loadshedding, unemployment and poverty. Pakistan is passing through the most critical phase of its history and Peoples' Party government had badly failed on every front.
He said the political leadership would have to adopt a national policy for steering the country out of crisis. The incompetent rulers had defamed democracy in the name of conciliation and the whole nation was anxiously waiting for new elections, he added.
He hoped that through the power of vote, the masses would bring forward an honest, committed and public-spirited leadership which would solve the problems of the country, if the grievances of the people were not redressed the country would plunge into anarchy and chaos.
He said the day of accountability of such elements which used power to safeguard their personal interests was very near. Punjab government of Pakistan Muslim League-N has taken revolutionary measures during the last four and a half years for the uplift and betterment of the masses.
