Mobilink Foundation has been nominated for the GSMA's Global Mobile Awards 2013 to acknowledge the success of the 'SMS Based Literacy' programme. Mobilink Foundation's 'SMS Based Literacy' programme has been nominated for the inaugural 'Connected Life Awards' in the category of 'Best Mobile Education or Learning Product or Service'.
The programme is Mobilink Foundation's flagship corporate responsibility project in the education sector, which is aimed exclusively at rural women. 'SMS Based Literacy' was launched in May 2009 in collaboration with Unesco, and is the first and the only service in Pakistan that utilises Short Messaging Service (SMS) to impart education. The programme is currently in its third phase and is being implemented in the provinces of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa of Pakistan; till date, it has reached out to over 4,000 female learners across Pakistan.
Rashid Khan, President and CEO, Mobilink, highlighted, "It is a matter of great pride for Mobilink that our efforts are being recognised on the GSMA platform. The Mobilink Foundation has been the custodian of Mobilink's Corporate Responsibility initiatives since 2007, and the nomination is an acknowledgement of our efforts towards making a difference for the societies in which we operate."
Michael O'Hara, Chief Marketing Officer, GSMA, added, "The GSMA warmly congratulates all the nominees for the 18th annual Global Mobile Awards. The competition for 2013 was of an exceptionally high quality, breaking all previous records. Our judging panel has assessed well over 600 entries and nominations for the 37 awards, the largest ever number of honours to be presented in the history of the Global Mobile Awards."-PR
