Federal Minister for Information, Qamar Zaman Kaira on Saturday said the nomination of the interim prime minister would be done in consultation with chief of Tehrik-e-Minhajul Quran, Allama Dr Tahirul Qadri. Talking to media after meeting between the government team led by Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Tahirul Qadri here, Kaira said it had been agreed that the period of candidates' nomination papers scrutiny will be increased from 7 to 14 days.
Commenting on PPP lawmakers joining PML-N, Kaira said 'N' made a tremendous achievement by bringing PPP members into its fold. "I will appeal to the President to announce medals for Chaudhry Nisar and Shahbaz Sharif for this great "glory", he added. Kaira said assemblies will be dissolved before March 16 and the government will implement the electoral reforms agenda within constitutional limits, as promised with Dr Tahirul Qadri during the negotiations at Islamabad 'Long March' venue.
Kaira said that Dr Tahirul Qadri would be taken into confidence before finalising the names for the caretaker prime minister. Kaira said Pakistan People's Party would democratically respond to the undemocratic act of the PML-N of "defections. He said PML-N had rejoined the Members of Punjab Assembly who had earlier left the party and joined PML-N 18 months ago.
In response to a question, he alleged the PML-N had staged a drama in 'response' to the Lahore visit of President Asif Ali Zardari, adding that MPAs who joined PML-N had supported the party during Senate elections against PPP candidate Chaudhry Aslam Gill.
Kaira further said PPP believes PML-N was violating the Charter of Democracy and it was forcing assembly members to change their affiliations. He said it has now been proved the PML-N government in Punjab was dependent on turncoats and its government could not have sustained if it had not 'bought' affiliations of PML-Q turncoats.
He termed the political approach of PML-N undemocratic, adding that PPP would face it democratically. Dr Qadri said the government fulfilled its part of the agreement by adopting his stance. "A wrong impression was created in the Supreme Court," he added. He said he wanted to dispel the impression that he was here to delay election or derail the electoral process and democracy. He further said that he would never derail democracy. Dr Tahirul Qadri said it was unanimously agreed from both sides that security for the nomination papers reduced to 14 days instead of 30 days.
Dr Tahirul Qadri also criticised the Punjab government for baseless allegations against him and Minhajul Quran Movement. He said that to dispel the impression to postpone general elections, he had accepted the demand of the government delegation and agreed to reduce time for scrutiny of nomination papers.
