Teach For Pakistan, an initiative of The Aman Foundation, along with its Fellows organised an inter-school competition between students of 12 under-resourced schools in Karachi. This was part of their mission to engage students and parents in the learning process, and provide students with a platform to challenge themselves academically outside their classrooms.
"Academic Olympiad 2013", a pioneering event that was held at the Aman Foundation in Korangi from 9.00am to 12.30pm, tested student's skills in Math, Science and English. This event aimed to instil and foster the spirit of academic and intellectual excellence in its young participants. Attended by school administration, parents and partners of Teach For Pakistan, the event was an equivalent platform for competition. The Olympiad brought together students from 12 schools in under-resourced communities across Karachi to compete and emerge as outstanding role models for their peers, schools and communities.
Teach For Pakistan has placed 60 Fellows in 29 schools in Karachi and Lahore. The event was co-sponsored by Teach For Pakistan, Engro Corp, Avari Towers and Aman Health. The Chief Guest, Aziz Kabani, from the Sindh Education Foundation (SEF) spoke highly of the work the Fellows are doing in SEF adopted schools across Karachi.
Ahsan Jamil, CEO, Aman Foundation and Chairman of the Teach For Pakistan Board and Khadija Bakhtiar, CEO, Teach For Pakistan praised the efforts of Fellows in increasing academic opportunities and aspirations for their students. Teach For Pakistan is part of the 'Teach For All' global movement of recent graduates and young professionals who commit two years to teach in under-resourced schools.-PR
