Owners of a smartphone with near-field communication (NFC) capacity can construct their own NFC tags fairly simply. These can be small stickers or key rings to transmit commands to smartphones which are swiped past them, according to German computer magazine PC Welt.
Using one can direct a car to automatically turn on Bluetooth, for example, or a phone to send an "I'm here" text message whenever it passes a cabinet with the correct NFC tag.
It doesn't cost much money to buy the stickers or chip cards that hold the tags. Nor is it necessary to make sure the tag is manufactured by the same company that made the smartphone.
Using pre-existing software, dabblers can create their own commands or choose from a selection of ready-to-go ones. Other apps like SMS Plugin or Call Plugin are necessary before a smartphone can perform functions like automatically sending a text message or calling a number after being swiped over an NFC tag.
