The cabinet division has approved the signing of the Protocol of Intensions (PoI) between the governments of Brazil and Pakistan on technical co-operation in agriculture research. A source in the Ministry of National Food Security and Research (NFS&R) said that the Cabinet Division had approved the protocol during its last meeting, adding NFS&R and the government of Brazil will sign the protocol in a few days.
He said that the main objective of the protocol is to strengthen the existing relations between the two countries through development of cooperation in the field of agriculture research, besides strengthening food security.
The source said that the signing of the protocol would pave the way to boost the production of bio-fuels and ethanol from crop residue. Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) of Ministry of External Relations and the Brazilian Agriculture Research Corporation (Embrapa) and Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) of Ministry of NFS&R are the designated parties for the PoI, he added. "The POI does not create any right or obligation to the parties under international law," he said.
