Taiwan stocks closed 0.84 percent higher on Friday, with defensive shares such as car makers and food counters the biggest gainers, both rising over 2.2 percent. The main TAIEX index gained 66.65 points to 7,964.63, after opening up 0.25 percent. Electronics shares climbed 0.7 percent, while financial shares rose 0.8 percent. The Taiwan dollar was up T$0.099 to T$29.606 to the US dollar.
