The death toll of Abbas Town blast rose to 50 while the case was not registered despite the passage of over 24 hours after the blast. According to sources, the investigation team of police was unable to dig out the details of the vehicle used in the blast. SHO Saachal Azhar said that the case would be registered after compiling details of the victims. Some 45 bodies were identified, he maintained.
Meanwhile, in charge of Edhi Morgue said some 29 bodies were brought to Edhi morgue, of which, six bodies were unidentifiable while rest of them were taken away by the heirs for rituals. SSP Niaz Khoso said the investigation team headed by AIG Ghulam Shabir visited the blast site and collected evidences for forensic examination. He said that around 150 to 160 kilograms of high explosive material was used in the blast and added that the investigation team was presently busy in finding details about the vehicle used in the blast.
On early Monday, Rangers on a tipoff conducted operation in Ali Goth in Gadap town and took four suspects, who were said to be the workers of banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan, into custody. Sources said the crackdown was aimed at facilitating investigation team of Abbas Town blast.
They said the law enforcers had detained some 31 suspects during operation and added that these detained persons were said to be the workers of different banned outfits. They said the Rangers had also recovered 21 weapons of different calibers from the possession of the arrested men. Further investigation was underway.
