The Supreme Court on Thursday asked Director General Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to supervise investigation against those involved in facilitating the escape of Shahzeb's killer abroad and submit a fresh report on the next date of hearing.
A three-judge bench led by the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry that resumed the hearing of Shahzeb murder case was informed that one of the facilitators (Sultan) who helped Shahzeb's killer in flying abroad had been absconding whereas Wasi, also a facilitator, obtained pre-arrest bail from the court on February 28. During the proceedings, in the Shahzeb murder case arguments focused on person or persons who helped the accused Shah Rukh Jatoi to escape from the airport unnoticed?
"The two employees of PIA allegedly involved in helping the accused in escape had been serving at Bilawal House as protocol officers," Muhammad Malik, Director FIA Karachi, revealed. "Through investigations we have learnt that Mehmood Sultan and Wasi Akhtar associated with Bilawal House aided Jatoi in reaching the aeroplane without having an exit stamp on his passport," the director said.
The bench was informed that Chief Protocol Officer of Bilawal House in a letter had asked the PIA to hand over the services of the two men to arrange the protocol for the Bilawal House guests. The FIA Director further said the Bilawal House had been acting as presidency, but he could not satisfy the bench with proof that Bilawal House existed as part of the presidency.
The letter by the Chief Protocol Officer of Bilawal House was not written with any official stamp of the presidency, the Director told the bench in response to an inquiry of the Chief Justice whether there was any proof that the two protocol officers were associated with the presidency. "Do not try to tilt things towards the other side - we are not against anyone and only want that the law should be abided by and the investigation should be carried out strictly in accordance with the rules and regulations," the Chief Justice said. The hearing of case was adjourned till March 18.
