The gross sales tax collection from textile sector stood at Rs 1,250.76 million against refund of Rs 8,165.46 million paid to the sector during (July-January) 2012-13. Sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday that the refunds obtained by the textile sector are much higher as compared to sales tax paid by textile units.
The refund of Rs 8,165.46 million was obtained during (July-January) 2012-13 against sales tax payment of Rs 1,250.76 million, reflecting a huge difference of Rs 6,914.7 million. The gross sales tax collection from plastic sector was Rs 446.2 million against refund of Rs 80.1 million during (July-January) 2012-13.
The amount deposited by textile, plastic and other big sectors and the amount of refund shows similar trend where refunds are higher than the gross sales tax payments, the FBR said. The gross sales tax collection from POL products was Rs 100441.977 million during (July-January) 2012-13 whereas refund amounted to Rs 2,806.234 million during the period. The gross sales tax collection from natural gas was Rs 21,637.701 million during (July-January) 2012-13 as compared to refund of Rs 423.005 million and paper and board sector deposited gross sales tax of Rs 1,453.300 million during the period under review as compared to refund of Rs 335.354 million issued during (July-January) 2012-13.
The sales tax refund system is based on an integrated and cohesive mechanism and is being executed and monitored through automated process. For transparency and quick disposal of genuine refund claims, latest software is installed and laws introduced to check manoeuvring by unscrupulous elements at various stages, the FBR added.
