The Australian and New Zealand dollars lost ground to a broadly firmer US dollar on Monday in the wake of surprisingly strong US labour data, but held near 2008 peaks versus the yen on growing expectations of aggressive easing in Japan. The Aussie was pinned at $1.0224, from $1.0239 in New York on Friday, outshone by a vigorous US dollar which held near seven-month highs against a basket of major currencies.
The New Zealand dollar slippped to $0.8195, close to a 2-1/2-month trough touched on Friday.
