President Pakistan Muslim League-Likeminded Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has demanded accountability of the incumbent rulers before the forthcoming general election in the country. The former Sindh chief minister, who had landed in Lahore on Wednesday after ending his four and a half years long exile, alleged that Pakistan People's Party had plundered the national wealth for five years.
Addressing a news conference along with PML leader Hamayun Akhtar, here on Thursday, Arbab said that PPP's agonising rule was tainted with corruption, mismanagement, loot and plunder. He was of the view that the PPP leadership did nothing to solve problems of the masses. "Due to PPP's misrule and mismanagement, people have become fed up with democracy," he claimed.
Speaking about his future political strategy, Arbab said that his party would fully participate in the general election as an ally of PML-N. He also said that he would soon visit his home district Tharparkar as well as other villages of the Sindh province. He rejected the PPP's nominees for the caretaker prime minister's slot. He called upon the Election Commission of Pakistan to create conducive environment for holding fair, free and transparent elections in the country.
He was of the view that the PPP's so-called policy of reconciliation had destroyed the rule of law in the Sindh province. He said that PML-Q was a group of self-serving politicians who joined hands with the PPP to remain in power. However, he said Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain was a seasoned politician and that he should not seek the slot of caretaker prime minister.
