The development work of Institute for Surgical Technology and revamping of Metal Industry Development Centre Sialkot (MIDC) costing Rs 391.281 million is in full swing the double-storey building of institute has already been completed.
Official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that the basic concept of establishment of the institute is to produce trained and skilled workforce for catering needs of the surgical industry while revamping of MIDC is to provide modern common facility, adversary service and transfer of technology to the small and medium businessmen engaged with surgical industry of Sialkot.
The Institute for Surgical Technology will provide training in the field of die and mould making, forging, machining, heat treatment, electronics and quality control, etc areas identified by the local surgical industry. At present the surgical industry is passing through a critical time regarding non-availability of trained and skilled workforce particularly related to new machinery and equipment and artisans (Hand Skill).
The Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) under the directive of Punjab government has taken the step to address the problems being faced by the surgical instruments manufacturers and to modernise the surgical industry enabling it to cope with the new challenges of the world market.
The Surgical Institute would be completed at a cost of Rs 334.384 million while revamping of Metal Industry Development Centre Sialkot (MIDC) would be accomplished at a cost of Rs 234.589 million. The Punjab government has taken the step to address the problems being confronted by the surgical instrument manufacturers and modernisation surgical industry of Sialkot. Over 70 percent ultra modern machinery has so far been installed in Metal Industry Development Centre (MIDC) and remaining machinery would be installed shortly.
