The Karachi Port handled 96,055 tonnes of cargo comprising 55,962 tonnes of import cargo and 40,093 tonnes of export cargo including 6,919 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ended at 0700 hours on Saturday. The total import cargo of 55,962 tonnes comprised 50,297 tonnes of containerised cargo; 60 tonnes of general cargo and 5,605 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 40,093 tonnes comprised 29,019 tonnes of containerised cargo; 1,372 tonnes of general cargo; 8,702 tonnes of bulk cargo and 1,000 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 6,919 containers comprising 3,583 containers import and 3,336 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Saturday. The brakeup of imported containers shows 1,257 of 20's and 1,096 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 67 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 660 of 20's and 602 of 40's loaded containers while 394 of 20's and 539 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There are four ships with two container ships, one oil tanker and one cement carrier respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There are five vessels with three container ships and two cement carriers respectively are currently at the berths. There are six ships namely Santa Rosa, MOL Dignity, Lantau Arrow, Golden Gion, MT Quetta and MT Islamabad with three container ships, two oil tankers and one general cargo ship respectively are due to arrive on Sunday.
The total export cargo of 26,760 tonnes includes 7,362 tonnes of cement and 19,398 tonnes of containerised cargo. One container ship namely CV Kerstin-S sailed out to sea during the last 24 hours. A total number of eleven vessels viz CV Kerstin-S, CV MSC Didem, MT Mighty Ocean, MV Sea Gull-D, MT Global Peace, Atlantic Glory, MT Lahore, Gas Chem Antaretic, Bunga Melati Dua, Smart Jessica and MV KPS-I Alican Bey are currently occupying berths to load/offload containers, cement MEG, iron ore, palm oil, furnace oil, ethylene and power ship respectively during the last 24 hours.
As many as four ships namely Julie Delmas, Maritime Yanessa, Birch Two and Chem Road Nova with containers, palm oil and wheat respectively are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim. No ships are expected to take berths on Saturday. One ship namely CV Lantau Arrow with containers is due to arrive on Saturday as per arrival schedule.
