The Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has reduced water outflows from Tarbela and Mangla dams for irrigation and hydel power generation purposes after recent rains in the country, Meteorological department said here on Sunday.
In its rivers inflows and outflows report, the Met Office said that Irsa has reduced water discharges downstream Tarbela dam on river Indus from 35,000 cusecs to 25,000 cusecs and off Mangla dam from 40,000 cusecs to 35,000 cusecs.
According to Wapda report about the position of the river inflows and reservoirs levels, 23,500 cusecs water is running in river Indus at Tarbela, 28,500 cusecs in river Jhelum,, 30,000 cusecs in river Kabul and 16,000 cusecs in river Chenab. There is still 1.2 MAF water left in the reservoirs, (Tarbela 0.374 MAF, Mangla 0.773 MAF and 0.118 MAF in Chashma barrage)
Meanwhile, in its daily weather forecast for Monday, the Met office said that mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of the country. However, thunderstorm/rain is likely to occur at isolated places of Kohat, Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara, Mardan, Rawalpindi divisions, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir. There is little change in the weather during next 48 hours.
Weather remained dry in most parts of the country on Sunday. However, isolated rain-thunderstorm occurred in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi division, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Chief amount of rainfall last 24 hrs in mm:
Dir 29mm, Pattan 15 , Balakot 14, Malamjabba, Chitral, Muzaffarabad and Risalpur 08mm. Parachinar-05, Garhi Dupatta and Mirkhani-04(each), Peshawar A/P, Peshawar city, Lower Dir and Drosh-03(each), Saidu Sharif-02, Murree-01, Chilas, Astore, Islamabad, Mianwali traces.
