ACCA employers, Learning partners and workplace mentors gathered on Wednesday to celebrate the achievement of more than 250 new members that had reached the ACCA membership landmark in 2012.
The ceremony was attended by many distinguished guests who were representing leading organisations and top employers in Pakistan including Crescent Bahuman, A.F. Ferguson, Ernst & Young Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder Chartered Accountants, Packages Limited, Coca-Cola Beverages Limited and Kansai Paint Co Ltd and many others.
The chief guest of the ceremony was Chief Executive Officer, Kansai Paint Agha Zafar Abbas, and the Keynote address was delivered by Salman Hafeez, Chief Financial Officer, Crescent Bahuman. The ceremony began with a welcome address by Head of ACCA Pakistan, Arif Masud Mirza.
He discussed how existing members had been given greater exposure and access to better employment opportunities through the growing ACCA networks. Zafar Abbas talked about the importance of professional accountants to creating sustainable growth in an economy like Pakistan. He said that he saw ACCA's as strategists and business leaders re shaping the future of the country.
The general opinion of employers was that ACCA members are work ready accountant, with strong technical and communication skills. Employers felt that members have brought stability in their organisation because of their skills and expertise.
On this occasion recorded messages of Helen Brand the CEO of ACCA, and Barry J Copper President ACCA were played. Helen talked about her recent visit to Pakistan. She said 'the great work ACCA members are doing all over the world is testament to this dependability. The work you do to uphold our reputation is excellent.
Barry said 'a wide range of organisations in Pakistan need professional accountant and their skills and expertise, as the economy here continues to develop rapidly.' He said that ACCA exists because of its members. Keynote speaker Salman Hafeez talked about his own journey as an ACCA member, and how his life had changed for the better after his ACCA membership. Nida Naeem in her senior member speech brought a new angle to ACCA and accounting. She identified volunteer work and giving back to the society as two great initiatives that members could take.
She discussed the challenges that ACCA members faced and reiterated her own experience to make members realise that we are all on the same boat. The ceremony was highly appreciated by the new members. It not only acknowledged their achievement, it also provided them a platform to interact with current and prospective employers.
