Over 25 professionals from various universities and other organisations were trained on various techniques of taxidermy at a three-day training workshop on "Taxidermy and Natural History Development" at the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS) Lahore.
The training participants were selected from the UVAS, GC University Lahore, Kinnared College Lahore, Urdu Science Board, Zoological Survey of Pakistan and Lylpur Museum Faisalabad. Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha chaired the closing ceremony of the workshop and distributed certificates among the participants on Saturday.
The Pakistan Wildlife Foundation, Higher Education Commission, Urdu Science Board and Directorate of Biodiversity had supported the UVAS in arranging the workshop. The participants were trained on techniques for "birds skinning and mold making", "insects collection and preservation", "birds preparation and mounting", "insects stretching and mounting", "mammals skinning" and "fish mold making", etc.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC said that such training courses were always useful in updating knowledge and skills of professionals. He said that more such workshops were needed to be arranged to train the professionals on latest techniques of taxidermy for preservation of natural history.
